For over 28 years, Jim Birdsong has been in the field of fiber optics. Jim has worn many hats starting as a fiber splicer, inspector, tester, manager and trainer as well as mentor for many individuals interested in pursuing becoming fiber splicers who have gone on to many successful jobs in the fiber optic world. His background before fiber was working in the computer field as a service tech on Mainframe, mini-computer systems as well as Local area networks. And as systems analyst as well as top sales rep for many reputable companies before starting his own computer business in Houston. After deciding to move his family to Missouri he sold off his computer service business and happened to meet someone who offered him a seat in his Fiber Optic training class. So started his career in Fiber Optics.
His career in fiber covered all aspects of splicing, testing, and troubleshooting, network restorations and some engineering. Jim has traveled all over America, in Canada, Mexico, Alaska and the Grand Bahama’s as well as American Samoa, and Puerto Rico. Working with companies like Verizon, AT&T, Century Link, MCI, IXC Broadwing plus many local telephone and power companies doing FTTH.
