Fiber Optic Traffic Systems Specialized Installer – (TR-ITS)

Course Information

As the number of cars on the road increases, the need for traffic control grows exponentially. Fiber Optics are increasingly being used to tie together the enormously-complex networks that control the traffic lights, message signs, cameras and other traffic systems technology. This course teaches the essentials of splicing, testing and troubleshooting fiber optics systems, as well as the specialized Outside Plant knowledge required to work with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) traffic systems. Course lectures must be taken online.

Upon successful completion of the required on-line lectures and exams, the student will then attend the TR-ITS Hands-on training sessions scheduled. The hands-on training session is required to complete the Fiber Optics for Traffic Systems Certification.

Objectives

Fiber Optics for Traffic Systems training will provide the student with the necessary knowledge and skills to:

  • Layout, install or maintain fiber optic cabling systems
  • Demonstrate a practical knowledge of fiber optic theory, codes, standards and installation practices
  • Demonstrate a practical knowledge of individual hands-on skills including:
    • Performing industry standard fiber optic terminations
    • Preparing cables for inside and outside applications
    • Performing fusion splicing and splice tray preparation
    • Testing with the OTDR and optical loss test equipment

Target Audience

Fiber Optics for Traffic Systems is designed for new or experienced personnel seeking a deeper understanding of the installation of fiber optic cabling systems.

Candidates for this course don’t have to have any knowledge or experience in the following areas, but it may be useful:

While not a required prerequisite, this course builds on the knowledge gained from our Fiber Optic Fundamentals Course. It is recommended that workers with no fiber optic experience take the online Fiber Optic Fundamentals Course  prior to this one.

This course is excellent for anyone involved in the fiber optics for Traffic System environments and anyone who designs, installs, maintains, or tests fiber optic cabling systems.

Fiber Optics for Traffic Systems Training – Fiber Optics for Traffic Systems training is designed for those who layout, install or maintain fiber optic cabling systems. Exam: ITS – 50 Question Multiple Choice – This exam must be passed in order to qualify for a certificate in our Fiber Optics for Traffic Systems course.
