Buckner Integration Group is expanding into mission-critical data center work across metro Atlanta, supporting hyperscale builds for major general and electrical contractors. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Fiber Technician / BICSI Level II to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will lead the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of complex fiber optic and structured cabling systems within data centers and telecommunication environments. Your expertise will ensure the seamless operation of high-speed data networks, telecommunications systems, and low-voltage electrical wiring, supporting mission-critical infrastructure. As a leader on the team, you will mentor junior technicians, coordinate project tasks, and uphold the highest standards of safety and quality. Duties
- Lead the installation, termination, splicing, and testing of fiber optic and structured cabling using industry-standard techniques and equipment.
- Oversee structured cabling projects, low-voltage electrical wiring, and telecommunications cabling in data centers or enterprise environments.
- Utilize schematics, technical drawings, and network diagrams to accurately install and troubleshoot communication systems.
- Conduct diagnostic testing with telecommunications testing equipment such as OTDRs (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers), cable testers, ohmmeters, RF testers, and other diagnostic tools to ensure system integrity.
- Perform equipment troubleshooting for network issues involving Ethernet wiring, fiber optic systems, routers, switches, and telecommunication systems to maintain optimal performance.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards by properly using hand tools, power tools, and electrical safety procedures.
- Collaborate with clients to understand project requirements; provide exceptional customer service by communicating technical information clearly and professionally.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Fiber Technician or in a similar role with demonstrated expertise in fiber splicing (fusion/splice), cable termination, and structured cabling installation.
- BICSI Level II certification or equivalent is required; additional certifications such as CCTV installation or low-voltage electrical certification are advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of computer networking concepts including LAN, WAN, Ethernet standards, and telecommunication protocols.
- Experience working with schematics, technical drawings, telecommunication testing equipment, and diagnostic tools to troubleshoot complex network issues effectively.
- Ability to operate hand tools like crimpers, wire strippers, cable pullers; power tools for cable runs; electrical testing devices including ohmmeters; and RF testers for signal analysis.
- Knowledge of low-voltage electrical wiring standards for data centers or enterprise installations; understanding of AC/DC electrical systems is preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills with a focus on clear communication during project execution; ability to lead teams effectively while maintaining safety standards.
