Master Fiber Optic Technician

LEVEL 35 DAY COURSE
LEVEL 3

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Showcase Your Cutting-Edge Technical Skills, and receive your professional TFS Master Certification as a Master Fiber Optic Technician!

The Master level of certification is The Fiber School’s most advanced certification program, designed for students who have either completed one of our Technician certifications or have commensurate industry experience.

Not only is the Master Fiber Optic Technician (TC-MFOT) certification program comprehensive – it’s the first of its kind in the telecommunications industry!

The master-Level certification encompasses all aspects of our Master Splicing (TC-MFS-TFS) and Master Testing (TC-MFT-TFS) certification programs into one extensive, five-day certification experience that qualifies a Technician as a true “Master.” It is designed to provide an unmatched, “real-world” experience, together with solid classroom instruction, using various labs, designed around splicing and testing scenarios.

The Master Fiber Optic Technician certification is a perfect compliment for experienced fiber optic installers and technicians. The course features advanced hands-on splicing, testing labs and documentation exercises designed to demonstrate advanced procedures and techniques. Approved Master Splicing (TR-MFS) and Master Testing (TR-MFT) courses culminate with an extensive 5th day of OLTS and OTDR testing and documentation certification exercises which, once successfully completed, result in the student receiving the “Master Fiber Optic Technician” certification.

Objectives

After taking this course students will be able to perform better, cleaner, faster splices and will have a better understanding of how to use any fusion splicer and OTDR. As a master in both splicing and testing, students will be better able to troubleshoot and repair network problems, analyze traces, and calibrate different types of OTDRs as well as be well prepared to learn expert fiber characterization techniques.

This advanced-level course incorporates both the 2-day Master Fiber Optic Splicing (TR-MFS) and the 2-day Master Fiber Optic Testing (TR-MFT) into one time-saving 5-day course (complete with hands-on labs and exams.)

In this extensive hands-on training each student will:

  • Prepare a single-mode cable for fusion splicing and assemble it onto an appropriate splice closure
  • Prepare and splice multimode pigtails in a LAN enclosure (fiber link)
  • Perform proper testing of all enclosures (fiber link testing)
  • Each student will become familiar with multiple types and brands of fusion splicers, cleavers, and preparation tools and testers.
  • Set up and calibrate equipment appropriate for each task
  • Test a link representative of each environment

As a masters-level course, it is recommended that students have had several years of field experience or have taken our TR-CFI or TR-OSP course prior to enrolling.
