Overview:

Reporting directly to the Fiber Construction Supervisor and/or Manager, the Aerial Lineman is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of aerial fiber optic infrastructure. This role involves working at heights, utilizing bucket trucks and climbing poles, and adhering strictly to safety practices and industry standards. The Aerial Lineman ensures efficient, safe, and high-quality fiber optic deployment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Aerial Fiber Installation:
Install and secure fiber optic cables in aerial environments, ensuring proper tension, clearance, and adherence to project specifications.
Set poles, anchors, and guys, and perform strand placement and cable lashing.
Assist with aerial splicing and termination of fiber optic cables as needed.
Equipment Operation:
Operate bucket trucks, aerial lifts, ladders, and climbing gear safely and efficiently.
Conduct daily equipment checks to ensure that the equipment is properly maintained and safe for operation.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere strictly to OSHA guidelines, NESC standards, company safety policies, and industry regulations.
Participate actively in daily safety meetings and consistently utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Site Management:
Implement and manage traffic control measures at aerial installation sites.
Ensure job sites are clean, organized, safe, and compliant with project and regulatory standards.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
Identify, troubleshoot, and repair aerial fiber optic issues, including cable faults, damage, or other service interruptions.
Conduct routine preventive maintenance to ensure network reliability.
Documentation and Communication:
Accurately document daily activities, equipment maintenance, job progress, and safety records.
Communicate status updates, technical issues, and resolutions effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

•       Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate’s degree or trade certification in telecommunications or a related field is preferred.

•       Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in aerial construction and fiber optic cable installation.  We may hire less experienced candidates as ground hands at a lower range and look to train them.

•       A valid driver’s license is required; a CDL Class A or B is strongly preferred.

•       Ability to pass pre-employment background checks, drug screenings, motor vehicle checks, and DOT physical exams.

Preferred Certifications:

•       Bucket truck and aerial lift operation certification.

•       Pole climbing certification.

•       OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety.

•       First Aid/CPR.

Technical Skills:

•       Proficient in aerial fiber optic installation techniques, pole framing, cable lashing, strand placement, and anchoring.

•       Ability to interpret construction drawings, utility maps, and fiber installation plans.

•       Strong understanding of NESC and TIA industry standards.

•       Proficient in utilizing digital tools for documentation and communication, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

Physical Requirements:

•       Capable of performing physically demanding tasks outdoors, working at elevated heights, and in varied weather conditions.

•       Safely lift and handle materials and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.

•       Comfortable with heights, climbing poles, and operating aerial equipment.
