Job Description
How You Will Contribute:

 

Reporting to Jason Wissman and Rich Nautel, Ciena’s Metro Technicians perform tasks relevant to the addition and removal of optical, DCN, power, etc. equipment on live and non-live networks. The team operates in a highly reliably motion, reinforced by a team culture that every person contributes and has the authority to highlight areas of concern. Swarming to solve problems is an everyday occurrence. Every person brings a unique skill set to the team and the team uses that uniqueness to become stronger and better able to serve the customer.

Assist in Basic Testing of associated hardware to support successful job completion with high quality while meeting or exceeding customer expectations
Take direction from Project Managers, Site Leads and Remote Testers
Complete and submit time and expense reporting and project documentation (redlines and EDPs) in a timely and accurate manner
Read and become familiar with all the requirements for each job ad written in the Job Methods of Procedure prior to job kickoff meetings
Assure that all job materials, IRM, tools, and test equipment are on-site and accounted for prior to the start of each job
Remove trash and debris from job sites daily, making sure all job materials are removed prior to trash removal
Safely operate company owned and rented vehicles
Install/remove components with live networks including Ladder rack, fiber raceway and rack/cabinet
Perform lacing for power cabling and signal cabling
Focus on fiber for running/cleaning/removing fiber patch cords and terminating to FDPs (Fiber Distribution Panels)
Perform rectifier/PDU installations/removals
Analyze Engineering Design Packages (EDP) and Visio Drawings
Perform on-site physical audits, and in-process or final quality inspections (Virtual Audits)
75-100% US Travel is required for this role. When you are on a job, you will likely be traveling. We do work to keep you in your home market when we can, but that is not always possible. There will be opportunities for PTO and breaks, as well as some weekends at home. Details to be further discussed during interview.

The Must Haves:
Candidate/incumbents must meet the minimum qualifications as detailed below or have a combination of education and/or experience deemed equivalent

High School Diploma a must, post high-school training preferred.
Proficient at installing multiple vendors’ equipment
Good written and verbal communication skills
Provide and maintain a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance
Provide and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report
Be able to learn and apply new skills in a timely manner
Great time management and documentation skills
The ability to work long hours
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
The ability to lift/carry up to 50lbs
Climb ladders safely by maintaining balance and able to use tool and carry materials while utilizing ladders
Have sufficient hand strength and dexterity to use industry specific tools
Module insertion into the equipment following ESD guidelines
The ability to distinguish colors and fine print accurately
Interface with customers to ensure understanding of customer’s requirements
Comfort escalating problems for resolution as required
Basic understanding/working knowledge of Troubleshooting
Analysis/critical thinking skills: See multiple relationships; go beyond immediately presented information by probing deeper to get at the root of a problem
Time Management
Maintain working knowledge of fiber optics cabling (install, clean, scope, etc.)
Maintain proficient knowledge of DC power concepts and performs -48DC power work on live systems, with minimal supervision, once fully trained.

Pay Range:

The annual pay range for this position is $50,100 – $80,000 USD
