The Optical Practice within the T&T division focuses on high-performance optical networking solutions, supporting OEM clients with the design, installation, and maintenance of ISP infrastructure. Working with each OEM in the DWDM long haul and Metro network we install and upgrade transport telecom equipment with integrity and quality. Work is performed in Central offices and Huts throughout the US with a presence around the world. Geared toward Telecom, the position does not entail services to the house or business such as IT\/AV, PBX, CCTV, VoIP or ATM. This position requires a good attitude and aptitude and offers potential for growth in the industry.<\/p>\n

Key Areas of Responsibility:<\/p>\n
Daily reporting (project number, site, hours on-site, hours travel, etc.)
\nWeekly and on time expense submission.
\nProject specific reporting in customer databases or Excel (self-audits, weekly updates, milestone reporting, etc.).
\nEscalates project issues and risks by interfacing with project personnel to include customers, and suppliers
\nMonitor implementation in accordance with time, cost, and quality\/standards
\nAssist upon request Engineering Dispatch Service.
\nMaintain access status, updating and increasing as needed
\nMaintain training records, updating and increase as needed
\nMaintain deployment tools and software (including certifications and calibrations)
\nLead and supervise work onsite
\nUnderstand and use established safety practices
\nUnderstand quality requirements and can implement quality control processes based on OEM technical practices and end customer Best Practices.
\nPerform power verification and preliminary hardware testing by use of proper testing tools.
\nAddition or removal of common systems equipment hardware.
\nAddition or removal of wiring and connections (on non-working equipment only).
\nCommissioning and testing of OEM equipment to the photonic layer.
\nRead and stay current on installation documentation.
\nCan perform inventory from Bill of Material (BOM)
\nRead and interpret engineering specs, prints, and drawings.
\nUnderstand the Scope of Work (SOW) and write comprehensive Job Change
\nDemonstrate proper use of telecom and fiber transport tools.
\nPerform all physical and mechanical installation activities.
\nMaintain on-site job records and administration tracking.
\nPerform power and grounding installations on equipment within a power bay or fuse and alarm panel.
\nUnderstanding of -48V power principles and terminations.
\nAbility to work safely around enclosed power bays with live equipment
\nUnderstands power cable types
\nLead verification\/continuity testing.
\nCan point out power cable size issues for voltage drop and length.
\nPerform power verification and power-up of OEM equipment.
\nManage logistics and execute physical installation of hardware on one or multiple sites.
\nPerform preliminary hardware testing in an out of service environment.
\nCan perform C&P as a standalone up to the Photonic layer.
\nCan perform troubleshooting with use of test sets i.e. BER, OTDR etc.
\nLead site teams (Site Team Leader assignment) managing others to ensure proper installation.

Qualifications Required:<\/p>\n
Must have a minimum of 3 years accumulated experience or equivalent as determined by the Installation Supplier\u2019s training process and demonstrated to the TC representative upon request, proficiency in the system (Familiar with Telcordia). In addition, must have obtained Telcordia Skill level 1, 2, and 3.
\nFamiliarity with TELCORDIA GR-1275 standard
\nExperience with DWDM Long Haul equipment
\nFamiliarity with -48V POWER
\nFamiliarity with Infinera (Nokia) equipment
\nFamiliarity with fibers and fiber scoping
\nAbility to perform work operations or job activities without supervision.
\nAbility to adhere to and show company policies and procedures
\nAbility to demonstrate good analytical and problem-solving skills and communicate results in a professional and structured manner.
\nAbility to work in a 10ft environment.
\nAbility to work in tight spaces and aisles under 3ft wide.
\nAbility to use a Personal Computer and various software applications (including but not limited to Outlook and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
\nTravel away from home for several weeks on demand as required
\nNight shift work required upon demand.
\nPhysically lift a minimum of 25 pounds (12 kilos)
\nConduct work assignments, communicate, dress and assist customer in a professional manner.
\nShall have the ability to train lower skill levels, give proper feedback and have performed items in lower skill level requirements.
\nAbility to identify proper installation in accordance with manufacturer technical manuals and customer best practices.
\nMust be able to evaluate other technicians\u2019 performance: Skill level evaluations (Installation skill levels)
\nProvide shadowing and hands on training
