Ensure that the nut is feed onto the cable FIRST, select proper bushing size, feed onto cable, insert flat washer, proper sheath clamp size, and then fiber body(placing fiber ring on body first) and center member clamps. Determine the number of fan-outs….and install blanks in unused ports. Clean fibers to ensure movement through the fan-out tubing. Once fibers are fed through, snap fan-out assembly into the fiber body, place shell and screw on. LABEL all fibers….with both buffer tube and individual fiber COLORS AND/OR NUMBERS. Proper installation of fan-out to ensure attenuation is not added unnecessarily.*
Buffer Tube Fanouts: follow manufacturer’s recommendation for fiber length as well as method of securing the “block”(or fan-out insert plug) into the housing. Ensure correct length of buffer tube to protect the individual fibers in the housing, meaning the buffer tube should continue past the 2nd crimp. In a buffer tube fan-out the crimps to be done with needle nose pliers, the buffer tube should not move when 5lbs of force is applied; this should leave a space between the crimps. Clean fibers to ensure movement through the fan-out tubing. Ensure the correct fiber color is fed into the correct slot, ie they are to be the same color. If project specifications require install weatherproofing epoxy prior to closing the housing, fill only ¾ full so the housing can be closed(if manufacturer recommendation is followed epoxy will overflow). LABEL all fibers….with both buffer tube and individual fiber COLORS AND/OR NUMBERS.
Connectors: All types. Follow manufacturer’s recommendation for the installation of each individual type of connector. Keep in mind cleanliness. Proper dressing and routing of the fiber in the back of the cabinet. ENSURE that couplers and connectors are both fully seated. Check connector end-faces with the Fiber Optic Probe/OTDR. IF using Factory pre-term connector modules, ensure that the fiber is properly dressed in the cabinet and that the end-faces are clean and properly seated.*
FO Splice Enclosures: Follow manufacturer’s recommendations for prep length, proper securing of strength member and Kevlar, grounding if applicable. Proper entry and installation of cable sheath size grommets, heat shrink assembly, proper waterproofing. Labeling.
