The Copper Splicing<\/strong> Technician\u00a0<\/strong>at ASG<\/strong> specializes in installing, repairing, testing, and maintaining copper and or fiber optic cables to ensure the quality and timely delivery of telecommunications services to our customers. Individuals in this role are responsible for reading and interpreting schematics and diagrams to splice, terminate, and test cable. As well as maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing damaged cable and related issues in the outside plant network. Daily tasks will include but not be limited to, physical labor, hand digging trenches\/holes with shovel, gathering, and storing tools, stocking trucks, maintaining equipment, operating in safe work zone.<\/p>\n

What you\u2019ll do: (Including, but not limited to):<\/strong><\/p>\n

Understand and practice all safety procedures in compliance with the OSHA and ASG standards.
\nComplete with accuracy all required paperwork work and reporting\u00a0in a timely manner\u00a0as required by the company.
\nPrepare cable and perform both fusion and mechanical splices for aerial and underground applications; ensure proper bonding and grounding of an aerial and underground plant.
\nEnsure all splice closures and termination points are airtight and free of moisture.
\nSplice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon cables, including high count ribbon fiber of 864 count or higher, and construct proper splice cases and fiber termination panels.
\nTroubleshoot and perform maintenance to resolve signal problems.
\nOperate technical equipment, including but not limited to computer, OTDR, power meters, fusion splicing equipment, and understand the functions.
\nLift and manipulate splice enclosures and other\u00a0plant\u00a0and equipment.
\nInstallation and dressing of cabling.
\nInstall protectors and demarcation equipment at the customer premises.
\nInstall and\u00a0maintain\u00a0vaults, mini-vaults, and\u00a0manholes;\u00a0identify\u00a0individual fiber cables at splice and node locations.
\nPerform manual excavations, including utility exposure, transition, and termination.
\nRead and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and cable schematics, fiber count reports, and verification reports.
\nUtilize all functions of RF meters, optical meters, TDR, OTDR, volt\/ohm\/amp meters, and monitoring software.
\nAssist\u00a0others to complete their skilled tasks more effectively.
\nClean and prepare the construction site for work, remove debris and\u00a0possible hazards\u00a0Dig place pull utility products as\u00a0required.
\nLocate & verify all utilities before and during construction.
\nAble and willing to use hand tools to complete tasks.
\nPerform restoration back to existing conditions, place seed and straw.
\nIdentify\u00a0utilities and monitor digging by dig crew to prevent utility hits.
\nClean and\u00a0maintain\u00a0equipment.
\nUnderstand the basic scope of the project and all aspects of OSP construction.
\nRestock trucks with supplies and ensure crew have the proper tools and supplies to complete the job.
\nPerforms other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the responsibilities of this job classification.<\/p>\n

What you\u2019ll need:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Technical<\/strong><\/p>\n

Demonstrated experience with fiber optic cable splicing, testing and repair
\nProficiency\u00a0with tools including cable strippers, crimpers, and test equipment
\nAbility to complete testing report results\u00a0timely
\n2 years of experience in the utility construction industry
\nAbility to\u00a0identify\u00a0and distinguish colors of utility flags and markings on the ground<\/p>\n

Desired Skills<\/strong><\/p>\n

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
\nMust have good written and verbal communication skills
\nAble to work in a fast-paced environment
\nThe ability to work safely, with or without supervision
\nValid US\u00a0drivers\u00a0license
\nClass A CDL and DOT medical card preferred
\nGeneral knowledge of construction practices
\nAble to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays when\u00a0required
\nAble to work in a fast-paced environment
\nSelf-motivated and able to work independently
\nProficient with Microsoft Office suite<\/p>\n
